Marine Park
The Alonissos Northern Sporades National Marine Park is the largest marine park in Europe and the first of its kind in Greece. In addition to Alonissos, the Park includes the islands of Peristera, Kyra Panagia, Gioura, Skandzoura, Psathoura, Piperi, as well as 22 xeronesia and skopelos. It is one of the last refuges of the Mediterranean seal Monachus-Monachus, the rarest mammal in Europe, while at the same time it constitutes a unique set of terrestrial and marine Mediterranean habitats, with hundreds of species of plants and animals, as well as important archaeological and marine monuments. In the areas of the Park where access to the public is free, swimming, free diving, wildlife observation, amateur photography and videography, visiting cultural monuments, hiking, etc. are allowed.
